Stress in our Body and Mind

Fight or Flight, the sympathetic nervous system: It is inevitable to face challenges in our lives, and this active mode help us get through them, solve problems, push through difficult times, and to survive dangerous situations. When the danger ends, our body goes into a recovering mode by resting, and digesting. Nowadays it is not clear when the danger is over, and some things can feel like a never-ending threat, an environment or person, or for example a high-achievement work place, where achieving a goal we worked for doesn't come with celebration and rest, but the start of the next goal, and it goes on. This is where problem arise.

Rest and Digest, the parasympathetic nervous system: We must hold balance between the active and the passive, the fight and the recover, the fast and slow, and the outward attention and the inward attention. If "Fight or Flight" is riding the bicycle, then "Rest and Digest" is the maintenance of the bicycle. Just like that, we must maintain ourselves, else slowly we become unreliable, and unstable. We slowly can't recognize ourselves.
